  • Orion High School students in art, band and choir were recognized at the Fine Arts Festival on Wednesday, May 2.

    Senior Art Award: Zach Kahley.
    Presented by Orion Music Boosters to outstanding juniors
    Criteria: Better than average scholastic standing, cooperation above and beyond normal duties, general musicianship, music performance, attendance, ambition, diligence, inspiration to others in program, citizenship, demonstration of personal and professional qualities in keeping with school standards
    Vocal: Lexi Keleher — Member of fifth-grade special group during C.R. Hanna Elementary School’s third-, fourth- and fifth-grade music festival. Participant in solo and ensemble contest since sixth grade. Selected for Illinois Music Educators Association’s district festival while at Orion Middle School, and auditioned as a freshman at OHS. Member of Special Edition two years. Chosen for conference honor choir from sixth grade through junior year. Performed at Quad City Arts Festival of Trees. Sang Christmas carols from fourth through seventh grades. Appeared in OHS?musicals “Beauty and the Beast” and “Carousel.”
    Instrumental: Madison Gritton — Member of fifth-grade recorder choir during Homecoming parade. Played piano for C.R. Hanna’s Christmas sing-along. Chosen for honor bands at Western Illinois University, St. Ambrose University and Monmouth College. Marching band drum major. Played clarinet or piano in solos and duets from sixth through 10th grade. Member of KnightSounds Jazz Band. Played in pit band for OHS?musical “Cinderella.” Tried out for IMEA?district festival.
