    runs at 9:30 a.m.
Thrivent Financial is sponsoring the 10-mile and 5K.
The 10-mile race is more than half again as long as a 10K.
During the Charger 10-mile, runners will head out into the country.
Organizers say the length of the course and its hills will help runners prepare for longer races such as the Quad Cities Marathon later in September.
Ten-mile finishers will be guaranteed entry in the 2012 marathon, which has limited the number of entries that it will accept.
New this year will be chip timing and technical shirts, which wick moisture away from the skin during exercise.
All pre-registered participants qualify for door prizes. Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place and random participants in 5K and 10-mile races.?There will be age group awards for the 5K and finisher medals for the 10-mile.
Forms are available at area businesses. Runners also can register at www.getmeregistered.com. Registration is due by Monday, Aug. 27.
Packets will be handed out and late registration accepted for the 10-mile and 5K from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, during the festival at Central Park, Orion. Race-day registration begins at 6:30 p.m. at Orion High School.
Runners should park at Orion Middle School, but parking will be available at Orion High School. All cars must be removed from parking lot by 10:30 a.m.
No pets will be allowed in the runs.
