Sterling Commercial Roofing has been hired to repair the Orion High School roof.

School board members accepted the company’s $655,342 bid at a special meeting on Thursday, June 24. Life-safety bonds will be issued to cover the cost.

The work will be done for $9.34 a square foot, or $2 to $3 less than it would have cost a couple of years ago.

This summer, the priority will be to replace the roof over classrooms, Superintendent David Deets said. If the weather holds, the company might be able to do more.

The board also accepted a $27,738 bid from Northwestern Restoration for repairs of cracked masonry along the roof line. The cracks allow moisture to seep in, and that might allow mold to grow.

Board members accepted a $36,745 bid from Johnson Controls for replacement of two boilers at C.R. Hanna Elementary School. The district had expected to spend up to $60,000 on the project, Deets said.

After accepting the resignation of band director Josh Youngs, the board hired Kathryn Liphout as the half-time band director.
