ORION—Repairs of the Orion High School roof are underway, superintendent David Deets told the Orion school board on Wednesday, July 21. Later in the meeting, board members approved raising the price of lunch at each school 25 cents.
ORION—“The crisis in state funding is far from resolved,” Orion Superintendent David Deets told the Orion school board on Wednesday, July 21. He said a couple of more tough years lie ahead. Boiling down 120 pages of financial data, the superintendent presented board members with a four-page summary of the district’s financial condition at the end of the 2009-10 budget year. Orion finished with a deficit of $140,000, he said.

ORION—If butterflies are self-propelled flowers, then Orion Middle School sent a big bouquet to Orion High School on Friday, May 28. Sixty-nine eighth graders were promoted that night to OHS, which hosted the 42-minute ceremony.
ORION—Brandy Nolan will be the new counselor at Orion High School, the Orion school board decided on Wednesday evening, June 16. The board also hired a new English teacher, Susan Beuth, for OHS, where she will be the play sponsor and one of the senior class sponsors.
ORION—Reggie Larson will continue to teach in the Orion school district, though not as a physical education teacher at C.R. Hanna Elementary School. After three years in a full-time position at C.R. Hanna, Larson will transfer to Orion High School and teach driver’s education as a half-time position.
ORION—Participation in band and choir provide a basis for lifelong learning and enjoyment. Many of our students have gone on to participate in music in college and beyond. We have a number of OHS graduates who have professional music careers or have gone on to teach music at different levels.
ORION—Main Street Orion brought together volunteers to clean up and beautify the village on Saturday, May 1. Among them were Student Council members and other students from Orion Middle School, who worked along the railroad tracks and Mosquito Creek near 11th Avenue.
