Brandy Nolan will be the new counselor at Orion High School, the Orion school board decided on Wednesday evening, June 16.

The board also hired a new English teacher, Susan Beuth, for OHS, where she will be the play sponsor and one of the senior class sponsors.

Social studies teacher Kevin Parker was hired as the junior class sponsor.

Board members recalled business teacher Marcy Wegerer to a three-quarter-time position at OHS.

Driver’s education teacher Reggie Larson was hired as the detention supervisor at the high school.

Three teachers were hired for C.R. Hanna Elementary School. They were Jody Belowske, Christina Carlson and Casey Wyant.

C.R. Hanna retired three teachers this year, and Principal R.C. Lowe juggled the aides’ schedule to save enough money to hire a teacher to keep class sizes down in third grade.

Ian Scott was hired as eighth grade boys basketball coach. He will replace Don Dunbar, who retired.

Secretaries who were recalled were Anita Jackson, who will work four hours a day at OHS, and Vicki Winsor, who will work 1,900 hours during the year at the superintendent’s office.

The district no longer will have a food service director, and Winsor will be responsible for the paperwork the director formerly handled.

Compensation for the head cook at each school was changed to reflect the additional duties they will have without a food service director.

Cooks recalled were Debra Barham 5 hours a day; Crista Barr, 4 1/2 hours a day; and Lou Ann Johnson, 4 hours a day.

The board accepted the resignation of Becky Nightingale as senior class sponsor. She will be teaching physical education at C.R. Hanna this fall.

Tony Stiles was hired as the fall groundskeeper and as the sophomore girls basketball coach.

Kevin Gladkin resigned as spring groundskeeper. He is going into the U.S. Marine Corps.

The board decided to hire a part-time custodian. Superintendent David Deets said the district was spending a lot of money on overtime and on hiring substitutes. The new custodian can be a substitute for the others, and should help reduce the need for overtime.

Consideration of the administrators’ salaries was postponed until the July meeting.

The board rehired OMS coaches and sponsors. For the fall, they are Jeff Padgett, eighth grade football; Brad Cirks, seventh grade football; Todd Rittenhouse, assistant football; Beth Galliart, eighth grade volleyball; and Jennifer Dean, seventh grade volleyball.

Jim Parry will continue as athletic coordinator and Denise Brokaw as yearbook sponsor.
