A 42-point second quarter ended up being more than enough for Orion as the Chargers rolled to a 68-14 victory over
Pittsfield/Griggsville-Perry Saturday on the Saukees’ Senior Day, Saturday, Oct. 23.

Things appeared to be going well for the Saukees early on. They got on the board first when Dillon Butler scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, and had the lead after one quarter when Matt Browning scored on a 29-yard run to make it 14-6.

In between the two Saukee touchdowns, Charger Cory Stiles scored on a 10-yard pass from Colton Schulenberg.

Once the second quarter began, it was all Orion.

The Chargers scored six touchdowns in the second quarter, which was more than enough as they took a 48-14 lead into halftime.

Dylan Schultz accounted for three of the scores. The first came on a 38-yard run, and the second and third on 40-yard  and 25-yard passes from Schulenberg.

Schulenberg himself scored on a 1-yard run early in the period. He threw a 4-yard pass to Matt Markezich for another touchdown.
Zach Kahley hit paydirt at the end of a 29-yard run.

In the third quarter, Markezich found the end zone on a 34-yard run.
Orion put two TDs on the board in the fourth quarter. Andy Adams, who usually catches the ball at the end of a pass play, took a handoff instead. He ran for 18 yards to cross the goal line.

Earlier in the season, the Chargers tried to get Trevor Peterson over the goal line on his birthday. It almost happened then, and it did happen on Saturday. Peterson scored from four yards out.

The Saukees managed 192 total yards in the game, with 119 of them coming on the ground. Their leading rusher was Bradyn Cox, who finished with 11 carries for 39 yards, while Browning finished with 35 yards on three carries.

Quarterback Seth Petty had a rough day in limited action through the air. He finished 3-of-12 for 73 yards and two interceptions.

His leading receiver was Butler, who finished with two receptions for 38 yards. The only other completed pass went to Brad Rumple for 35 yards.

The Chargers finished with 635 yards of total offense in the game, with 394 of them coming on the ground and 241 coming through the air.

The Saukees finished their first season in the West Central Conference 2-7 overall and 2-6 in league play. They finished in seventh place in the nine-team league, which was won by No. 1 ranked Illini West (9-0, 8-0).

The Chargers finished the season in fifth place, going 4-5 overall and 4-4 in their first year in the WCC.
