We are now down to the wire and everything is fitting together for a super-fun-filled week from Tuesday, June 22, through Sunday, June 27, of Henry County Fair activities.

Saw the guys out there working on the infield track for the demos and tractor pulls. Looking good.

A huge thank you to the National Guard (Kewanee and Galva) for coming forward to man our gates. You guys and gals are lifesavers. We appreciate your willingness to serve in so many ways. Now you’ve added yet another service.

Work has begun on the art hall getting it all set up. Lots of new classes this year. We’re looking for a really big quilt show among other things. Monday, June 7, was a busy day around the secretary’s office with all the last-minute entries coming in. I stayed at my desk for fear of being run over.

I’m going to help put up decorations for the “Hog Country Barn Dance” this week. It sure looks like a barn in there. Don’t forget bingo, too.

We could still use more cakes for the two cake walks. Call Cheryl if you have time at 937-2491 or 507-1464. Thanks to all who have offered. We’re almost there.

So many busy people around here. This rain is slowing us down a bit. Could someone stop and shut off this sky-faucet for awhile?

The harness races have been cancelled for this year. It was a very difficult decision, and the board is hoping to get them back next year. Many fairs, including the State Fair, had to cut them. Bottom line: They lose too much money, and the board cannot justify taking the chance at losing thousands with the condition the State of Illinois’ finances are in.

Look for the Henry County Fair insert in the next Advertizer-Shopper. If something was deleted, forgive us. There are so many volunteers it is hard not to miss someone. Know that anyone who has helped in any way is so much appreciated. We cannot thank you enough.
