ORION—Uniflyte, with facilities in Orion and Winnipeg, Manitoba, has introduced the Ultraflyte auger conveyance product. The Ultraflyte is the one true solution to the problem of premature wear, according to a press release.

ORION—Work on 13th Street will begin in early August,  trustees learned on Monday, Aug. 2. New curbs and gutters already have been installed, Trustee Jamie Lawson said. He is chairman of the street committee. Trustees approved paying $7,146 to Phil Thornburg Construction for 266 feet of curb and gutter.

ORION—Senior parent T-shirts have been ordered, and area churches are hosting a film for teenagers and their parents. Also, Orion PTA will have its first meeting in September.

ORION—Main Street Orion's very first double feature will be on Friday, Aug. 13, in Central Park, Orion.

ORION—The village will seek a federal matching grant to help pay for streetscape improvements. Trustees deadlocked 3-3 on a motion to apply for the funds and to proceed with the program if the village receives the grant. Breaking the tie, Village President voted in favor of the motion.

ORION—Repairs of the Orion High School roof are underway, superintendent David Deets told the Orion school board on Wednesday, July 21. Later in the meeting, board members approved raising the price of lunch at each school 25 cents.

ORION—During Orion Fall Festival, the Battle of the Bands and Orion’s Got Talent will bring friends and neighbors to the stage in the band shell at Central Park. After the talent show, the Orion Community Band will close out the festival with a concert.

ORION—Organizers of Orion Fall Festival are releasing information about the pie baking contest and auction, the family run, the arts and crafts show, the parade and other events from Friday, Sept. 3, through Sunday, Sept. 5.

ORION—With the schedule for the 2010 Orion Fall Festival in place, organizers are drawing on the 37 previous festivals for the details of each event.

ORION—Tickets are on sale now for the Elvi-Beetle Tribute Tour on Saturday, July 31, at the band shell in Central Park. This tour is the first to bring together tributes to Elvis and the Beatles, according to Elvis impersonator Al Hull.

CAMBRIDGE—Despite all Henry County departments coming in under budget for the past fiscal year, the county still faces a $500,000 deficit, which concerns members of the county board. At the board’s July 13 meeting, elected officials offered suggestions as to ways to cut expenses, but no recommendations were officially made or passed.

ORION—Orion FFA students competed at the annual Section 3 FFA Vo-Ag Fair. The horse show took place Thursday, July 1, at Black Hawk College, Kewanee, with the help of Aaron Callahan and Drew Cotton, the equine science staff members at BHE. On Friday, July 2, the Vo-Ag Fair was held at the Henry County fairgrounds, Cambridge, with help from Fair Board member Jake Young.

ANDOVER—Aprons are more than something Mom or Grandma wore to protect her clothing while she cooked. During her lifetime, Karen Anderson of Lynn Center collected hundreds of them. She drove as far as Omaha, Neb., to display them for audiences.

ORION—Nathan DeBaillie will be the interim principal at Orion High School, the school board decided on Wednesday, July 20.

ORION—In the past few months, a new face has appeared in Orion—that of Marci Kenney, owner of the Orion Family Pharmacy. She has worked at pharmacies since she was in middle school and owning her own is something of a dream come true, she said in a recent interview

CAMBRIDGE—The Henry County Economic Development Partnership (HCEDP) presented its  new website to community leaders at a recent workshop. Each community can have its own page on the website, listing vacant commercial properties for sale or lease. The page is free to partnership members.
