Black Hawk College 5K Hustle
The annual race will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Black Hawk College, Quad-Cities Campus, Moline. Packet pickup and race-day registration will be from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. Saturday in the Sustainable Technologies Building (to park, use Lot 1 off 70th Street). Sisters Stephanie Moen and Sarah Nedved, natives of rural Coal Valley who have been baking award-winning pies since childhood, will offer an “Easy as Pie” class from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in the Methodist Activity Center behind Orion United Methodist Church.
Main Street Orion is sponsoring the event, which will allow participants to make a fruit pie with a lard crust. They can take it home and bake it right away, or freeze it.
Participants need to bring a rolling pin, a bowl, a teaspoon measure, a tablespoon measure, a 1-cup measuring cup and a 2/3 cup measuring cup, and a can of fruit pie filling.

Western District Library, Orion, will host a wax museum at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. Students will dress up as historical figures and give short speeches. The library requests the students who are participating arrive by 9:40 a.m.
The Orion area Veterans Day ceremony will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Orion Area Veterans Monument in Central Park, Orion. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be in the Methodist Activity Center behind Orion United Methodist Church. A representative from Rock Island Arsenal will speak. Orion United Methodist youth will benefit from a multi-media trivia night on Saturday, Nov. 11, in the Methodist Activity Center behind the church. Doors open at 5 p.m. and trivia begins at 6 p.m.
Teams of eight may purchase mulligans and double-downs as they compete for prizes.
Walking tacos and soft drinks will be for sale.
Proceeds will help send youth on mission trips.

Andover oyster stew, chili supper
Andover American Legion will host its annual oyster stew and chili soup supper in rememberance of Veterans Day at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in Legion Hall.
Main Street Orion and Orion area Girl Scouts will be hosting the annual Mother-Son Event from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Methodist Activity Center behind Orion United Methodist Church.
Orion Girl Scout Cadette Troop 8917, which consists of five eighth graders at Orion Middle School, is partnering with Main Street Orion to put on the fourth annual Mother/Son Event.
Ages 3 through 103 are welcome. Mothers and sons are invited to wear shirts with their favorite characters. Activities will be designed for mothers and sons to do together.
Pre-registration was required by Friday, Oct. 27.
