As the village prepares for the most important of the year, Orion Fall Festival, vandals again damaged the historic band shell that is the heart of the festival, according to Village Trustee Steve Newman.

“The Board of Trustees wants Orion residents to know these acts will not be tolerated,” Newman said. “Planning has already begun to find a reasonable solution to ensure this never happens again.”

The most recent damage occurred on or before Wednesday, Aug. 24, Newman told the Gazette. Vandals punched large holes in the deck of one of the extensions and damaged the original decking at the top of the east stairs, he said.

“The band shell, which will be 100 years old in 2013, is one of Orion’s most prized assets and is a source of pride for the community,” Newman said.

The Village of Orion is offering a reward to anyone who provides evidence leading to the conviction of the person or persons who caused the damage, the trustee said.

Information should be provided to the Henry County Sheriff’s Orion office at (309) 526-3302 or the county office at (309) 937-3911.
