Dolores Evelyn Carlson, 78, of Orion died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Funeral services were  held Wednesday, July 28, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. Visitation was conducted from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial was in Western Township Cemetery, Orion. 

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Make-A-Wish Foundation.  

Dolores was born Aug. 20, 1931, in rural Orion, the daughter of Ivan C. and Evelyn (Seabloom) Swanson Sr.  She married Arthur “Ozzie” Carlson on April 8, 1949, at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Dolores was employed as a switchboard operator for the former Orion Telephone Company.  She was the owner/operator of the Dugout Beauty Salon for 10 years. She also was employed as a secretary for Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1981.

Dolores was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was active in WELCA, the Friendly Stitchers and the bell choir.  She was a member of the Orion Red Hat Society, the Orion American Legion Auxiliary and the Sesquicentennial Committee of Orion. For years, she was the committee woman for the craft tent at Orion Fall Festival.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur Carlson; her children, LaVerne A. (Penny) Carlson of Lynn Center and  Joyce E. (Rick) Hepner of   Orion; grandchildren, Kristi (David) Chipman of Reed City, Mich., and Sarah Hepner (Brian Allen) of Wheeler, Wis.; a great-grandchild, Jonathan Chipman; a brother, Marvin (Barb) Swanson of Orion; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Swanson of Moline and Diane Swanson of Sherrard.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Ivan Swanson, Jr., Charles Swanson and infant Donovan.
