Linda J. Saunders, 61, of Orion died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, after a courageous battle with lupus.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. Orion. Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 16, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Western Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America or the Lutheran Social Service of Illinois Chapter for Adoption.
Linda was born on January 14, 1949, in Galesburg, the daughter of Robert and Eleanora Gibb Morris. She married Alan Saunders on August 29, 1970, in Galesburg.
Linda was employed as a visiting nurse with the Henry County Health Department for 25 years. She then was employed with the youth prison in Kewanee as a nurse, retiring in 2004.
Linda graduated from Galesburg High School and from the former Lutheran School of Nursing, Moline.
She was connected with the Orion United Methodist Church.
Linda was truly a great lady and throughout her illness she never complained. It was through her nursing that she showed her love and care for others. Linda loved spending time with her family, and her grandson, Aiden, was truly the “apple of her eye.”
She is survived by her husband, Alan; son, Chad (Sunday) Saunders of Coal Valley; grandson, Aiden Saunders; father, Robert Morris of Galesburg; many cousins; and her lap dog, Harley.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother and her brother, Jeffrey Morris.
