Geraldine F. “Geri” Chilberg, 93, of Geneseo took the Lord’s hand to join her beloved husband, Robert, Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Skilled Care Unit, Geneseo.

Funeral services celebrating her life were held Tuesday, May 25, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation was held Monday, May 24, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Geneseo Historical Museum or Hammond-Henry Hospital Activities Department.

She was born Feb. 6, 1917, in rural Geneseo, the daughter of Robert and Ella (Hamann) Baze, granddaughter of Charles H. and Anna Hamann, long-time residents of Geneseo and owner of Charles H. Hamann Construction Company. His company stamp can still be seen on sidewalks and bridges in the Geneseo area.

She was a graduate of Orion High School. She married Robert R. Chilberg April 1, 1942, in Cahokia, Mo. He died Oct. 1, 1991. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Her claim to fame was being the 2009 Valentine’s Queen at Hammond-Henry Hospital. She enjoyed her family, baking birthday cakes and gardening.

Survivors include her twin daughters and spouses, Anita and Don Swihart of Stillwater, Minn. and Angela and Mel Snook of Geneseo; known as “GiGi” to  her much loved five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother and spouse, Ken and Loretta Baze of Geneseo, and a sister-in-law, June (Chilberg) Levy, Sun City West, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Howard and Raymond.
