Allan J. VanHyfte, 65, of Annawan died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan. The Rev. Sebastian Tumusiime officiated. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 22, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Atkinson, where a Rosary was recited.

Memorials may be made to the Allan VanHyfte Memorial Fund.

He was born Feb. 24, 1946, in Kewanee, the son of John and Elaine (DeMink) VanHyfte. He was a 1964 graduate of Annawan High School. He married Dawn Saylor on Dec. 12, 1970, in Atkinson. He later married Frances Foes Payne on Feb. 22, 2002, in Mineral.

He started his career as a graphic designer shortly out of high school for the former Atkinson/Annawan News. He then went to work in the composition department of the Geneseo Republic/GateHouse Media, where he was employed for 40 years. He spent the last year working for the Star Courier in Kewanee. He loved his work, which included putting together fall and winter sports programs for Orion Athletic Booster Club.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the Fighting Illini, Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees.

Survivors include his wife, Fran; two sons, Nick VanHyfte of Chicago and Zach VanHyfte of Aurora, Colo; a granddaughter, Ashli VanHyfte; parents, John and Elaine VanHyfte of Annawan; three sisters and spouse, Carol Noard of Atkinson, Linda Rosebeck of Annawan and Judy and Rick Rediger of Wyanet.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; a brother, Jim VanHyfte; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Rosebeck and Keith Noard; and a step-son, John Payne.
