A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, for Kenneth L. Wongstrom, 97, of Hopewell, formerly of Geneseo, who died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Cremation has been accorded. The memorial service will be held at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Inurnment will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
He was born on June 23, 1914, in Rock Island, the son of C. Elmer and Hannah B. (Anderson) Wongstrom. He attended Cambridge High School and then received vocational training in Silvis as a product engineer. He married Dora Haurberg in 1933. He later married Marjorie Newman on July 27, 1948, in Cambridge. She died on March 18, 2011.
He worked for the International Harvester Plant in East Moline for 41 years, retiring in 1975. He also farmed for many years in the area.
His memberships include the United Methodist Church, Port Byron; Moose Lodge No. 990, Geneseo; and the Viking Club, Moline. His hobby was woodworking.
Survivors include four daughters and spouses, Mary Jane and Gary Nyboer of Hopewell, Bonnie K. Young of Austin, Texas, Jeanna M. and Alan Curtis of Rockford, and Greta J. and Paul Erickson of Rockford; 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, grandsons Shane and Kent, and a brother, Gene.
