Owners
Dan and Jennifer Lees, Orion natives. Jennifer enjoys their affiliation with Subway, as well as life in Orion, which she described as “a nice town with a tremendous amount of convenience” for her family and business.
How the business began
The Leeses built the Citgo station (now Orion Mart) on Route 150, Orion. When their son was 2 years old, they talked to area residents and decided to sell the station and open a Subway restaurant.
The parent company had to approved the land, the building and procedures before construction could begin.
Distinctions
Subway has 44,000 stores worldwide, but the Orion store was the first to serve ice cream. Jennifer Lees found the product, from an Omaha, Neb., company, at a trade show. She received Subway’s approval to sell it.
Obvious question
Yes, Jennifer has met Subway spokesman Jared Fogle.
What the future holds
Subway requires its stores to remodel every seven years. Within the next few months, the Orion store will acquire new fixtures, paint and wallpaper. The work will be done after hours so customers are not hindered.
Main Street Orion
