Susan E. Miner, 70, of Macomb, passed away at 6:59 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois.
She was born Aug. 24, 1947 in Peoria, Ill., to George and Rosella Langdon Stambaugh; she married James B. Miner on Aug. 9, 1975. He survives.
She is also survived by a daughter, Maureen (Daniel) Miner-Bell of Oakland, California; two sons, Michael and Timothy Miner both of Galesburg, Ill.; a granddaughter, Eleanor Rose Bell; brother John Stambaugh of Milwaukee, Wisc.; Mark Stambaugh of Pekin; and sister Theresa (Hal) Baker of East Peoria; along with many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother George Michael Stambaugh
Suzi received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology & Audiology from Western Illinois University in 1972; her Master of Arts Degree in Audiology from Western Illinois University in 1973.
She was an Audiologist for the Peoria School district from 1973-1975. She also worked as an Audiologist for the Western Illinois Association from 1975-1978.
Beginning in 1985, Suzi worked at Western Illinois University as an Office Assistant in the Science Education Department and later as an Assistant Director for the Alumni Association.
In 2001 Suzi followed her passion to work with young students when she became a program assistant in a Kindergarten classroom at Lincoln School where she served for 11 years. She then volunteered to help with the pre-school program at St. Paul’s
She was a member of St. Paul’s Church, the St. Paul’s Women’s Guild, the Macomb Country Club, the Rolling Meadows Sewing Group and the Macomb Bomber Booster Club. She also served as President of the MHS Band Boosters.
She enjoyed reading, golfing, traveling, hanging at the pool with her cousins, yoga, tai chi, line dancing, feeding birds, (especially humming birds) and most importantly spending time with her new granddaughter.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Church Saturday March 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. Father Adam Stimpson will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, March 23, from 4-7 p.m. at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home; additional visitation will be one hour prior to mass at the church. Cremation has been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul School, Macomb Public Library, or the Illinois Cancer Care in Macomb.
