Joseph G. Johnson, 77, of Kewanee, formerly of rural Cambridge, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo.
Funeral services were held Dec. 6, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. The Rev. Bruce Rushing officiated. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation was Friday, Dec. 5, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
He was born Feb. 13, 1931, in Osco, the son of Gunnard V. and Doris (Rocine) Johnson. He was educated in Cambridge area schools. His first marriage was to Bernice Dupre. He married Lois Swanson Peterson June 6, 1987, in Galva.
He was a lifelong farmer and farmed in the Ulah area and then in Cornwall Township east of Cambridge. He retired in 1993 and moved to Kewanee.
His memberships include the Kewanee Moose Lodge, the Henry County Farm Bureau, and the Flemish-American Club in Kewanee. He was a former member of the Livestock Breeders Association and was a former Cambridge Township Trustee.
He enjoyed music, dancing, his grandchildren and going to Branson, Mo.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; a daughter and spouse, Debra and Pete VanDerSnick of Orion; sons and spouses, David J. Johnson of Moline, Dennis and Sue Johnson of Port Byron, Daniel and Jane Johnson of Newton, Iowa, and Douglas Johnson of Cambridge; two stepsons and spouses, Gary and Cindy Peterson of Warsaw, Mo. and Terry and Angie Peterson of Galva; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; two half-sisters and spouse, Joline Thurston of Ballwin, Mo. and Jacki and Lonnie Meinders of Dunlap, and a stepsister, Jean Kane of Cambridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joan Neilson, and his stepmother, Delphia Johnson Wells.
