Mary L. DeKeyrel, 89, of Coal Valley, formerly of Milan, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

The rite of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Burial will be in Rural Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Oak Glen Home, rural Coal Valley, or the church.
Mary was born March 31, 1919, in Illinois City to Camiel and Julia (DeCap) DeKeyrel.  

She was a bus driver for Alleman High School, Rock Island. Later she was the head cook for Alleman and Sherrard High School. She also helped her brother on his farm.

She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where she was the bookkeeper for the Altar and Rosary Society. 

She enjoyed flowers, gardening and taking walks outdoors. She also enjoyed making crafts, including cornhusk dolls and grapevine wreaths.  

She was on the WLS Barn Dance in Chicago.

To her family and close friends she was known as Aunt Mimi.

Survivors (and spouses) include a brother-in-law, Kenneth Wickenburg of Milan; sisters-in-law, Pat DeKeyrel of Milan and Rita DeKeyrel and Marian Zick of California; many nieces and nephews, including Teresa (Chris) Liedtke of Milan, Melanie DeKeyrel–Bell (Josh) of Peoria, Holly DeKeyrel of Orion and David Wickenburg of Milan.

She was preceded in death by brothers Fred, Joe, Frank and Charlie DeKeyrel and her sister, Marjorie Wickenburg.
