William J. “Bill” DeBaillie, 74, of Rock Island, formerly of Davenport, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Rock Island Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island.
Services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, where visitation was one hour prior to services. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the family to be designated later.
Bill DeBaillie was born June 15, 1935, in Moline, the son of Julius F. DeBaillie and Elizabeth Verstraete DeBaillie. He was married to Patricia Engle for a time.
He was a peacetime veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960.
Bill worked for the Rock Island Line railroad for more than 20 years. Following his retirement from the railroad, he worked for the city of Rock Island for more than 10 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport, and the Moline American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts.
He enjoyed sports. He loved being with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, and beloved pet dog, Hercules.
Surviving are his children (and spouses), Daniel W. (Sharon Justice) DeBaillie of Davenport and Debra A. (Bill) Williams of Muscatine; grandchildren, Taylor J. Williams, Cassidy Williams, Kennedy Williams, Michael Bonnichsen, Emily Justice and Jerid Justice; great-granddaughter, Jersey Scott; sister, Joyce (Gary) Lax of Coal Valley; aunt, Margaret Fender of Milan; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
His parents and his sister, Grace Ann DeBaillie, preceded him in death.
