Roy Lester Johnson, 99,  a longtime resident of rural Coal Valley and Geneseo, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. 

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, with visitation one hour before the service at the church. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. 

Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. 

Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo, was in charge of arrangements.

He was born Aug. 23, 1909, in Geneseo, the son of Edward C. and Johanna (Johannson) Johnson. He was educated in the Geneseo schools. He married Ruby Rahn June 21, 1936. 

He worked at Birtman Electric, Rock Island, before moving in 1947 to the family farm in rural Coal Valley. He retired from farming in 1969, and later worked for Moline and Orion School Districts, retiring in 1975. 

He was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 72-1/2 years, Ruby; a son and spouse, Arlyn and Mary Johnson of Orion; a daughter and spouse, Sharon and Ken Heinze of Milan; a son and spouse, Kevin and Annette Johnson of Granger, Ind.; two grandsons and spouses, Brent and Brenda Johnson and Jay and Kim Bealer; five granddaughters and spouses, Kelly Kellen, Angie and Ed Beard Jr., Darci and Shawn  Watson, Kelsey and Kristin; two stepgranddaughters, Laura and Sarah; five great-grandchildren, and one stepgreat-great-grandson. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Tracy; a twin brother and sister, Floyd and Florence; his twin brother, Ray, and twin great-granddaughters.
