Donald E. Baysinger, 81, of Alpha died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home, Woodhull. Burial was in Woodhull Cemetery, where graveside military services were conducted.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be left to Tri-County Ambulance Service or Moline American Legion Post # 246.
He was born Aug. 10, 1928 in Pekin, the son of Frederick and Henrietta Henrichs Baysinger. He graduated from Green Valley High School and married Geneva DeBoeuf Sept. 20, 1952, in Peoria. She died in 1993.
Don was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of American Legion Post #246 in Moline.
He was employed as a refrigeration engineer for West Side VA Medical Center in Chicago, retiring in 1994. Following his wife’s death, Don administered a nursing scholarship he established in her name.
He was an avid Cub and Packers fan, enjoyed the annual NASCAR “race trip” and recently collected coins.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie (Don) Bridgewater of Cambridge; sons, Greg (Laura) Baysinger of Carlyle and Jerry (Angela) Baysinger of Bruning, Neb.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Ary of Chillicothe; a brother, James Baysinger of Pekin; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, four sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.
