James Terry Sheddan Jr., 64, of St. George Island, Fla., died  on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.

The family held a memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church in Apalachicola, Fla., at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to a charity of the donor’s choice.

He was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Nov. 10, 1945, the son of James T. and Christine J. Sheddan.

He graduated from Auburn University and served in the United States Navy, where he flew the A-7 Corsair II.

After the Navy, he worked for DuPont for several years before he returned to flying as a pilot for a small charter airline in Atlanta.

In 1979, he moved to Germantown, Tenn., and became a pilot for Federal Express, where he enjoyed a 26-year career. 

He is survived by his wife, Jan (Raes) Sheddan; two sons, Sam Sheddan of Knoxville, Tenn., and Maj. Jacob Sheddan, U.S. Air Force, of Little Rock, Ark.; twin sister, Sandy Epling of Memphis; nephew, Patrick Epling of Memphis; and niece, Wende Berry of Memphis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
