With the upcoming election, I think it is a good time to remind the citizens of Henry County about the board’s decision to destroy a kids’ t-ball diamond to make way for a parking lot.
Please remember, the board had a much better choice; the Village of Cambridge offered to rework the boulevard and provide the desired parking spaces right in front of the courthouse entrance. This would have cost the county nothing!
Instead, the board voted to destroy the ball diamond and construct a parking lot in its place. Cost to the county taxpayers: $150,000 or more!
The list of members up for reelection who voted for this gross waste of resources are: District 1-James Eccher, Tom Nicholson, Pat Ripperger, and Rick Livesay (absent-vote counted as ‘no’ on the village’s compromise). In District 2, Muriel Weber also voted to destroy the ball diamond. In District 3, Jim Kursock, Jerry Thompson and Ron Salisbury voted to spend over $150,000 of your money instead of saving the kids’ park.
These people do not deserve our vote! Their decison was neither fiscally nor morally responsible.
This is not about voting Democrat or Republican, this is about common sense and common decency. Henry County deserves better and we have the chance on election day to vote these people out and bring new management in!
