I live in Osco, so like residents of Cambridge and Geneseo, I live in County Board District Two.
Here are the people I am supporting for the four available positions and why.
The first issue to consider is the wrongheaded decision to tear up the kids’ park in Cambridge for a parking lot at a cost of approximately $150,000.
This terrible decision was pushed by the Democrat majority on the board.
I am supporting Republicans Bill Preston, Karen Urick, and Rock Katschnig so they can work to overturn that decision. Folks who use the Courthouse should walk the extra distance to preserve a rare and valuable resource that cannot be easily replaced.
The second issue is that of free speech. Democrats Tom Steele and Tom Nicholson cast “no” votes on a motion made by Roger Gradert, and seconded by Muriel Weber, on June 13, 2006. The motion would have moved public comment to the beginning of the county board meeting from the end.
This way taxpayers would be respected enough to have their views heard BEFORE the politicians voted on the issues.
I’m casting my fourth vote for Muriel Weber. She stood up for public input.
Urick is a school teacher, Preston is retired from Deere and now teaches school, Katschnig is a farmer, and Weber is a retired farm/business owner. I like the backgrounds and quality of the Republican candidates in District Two and hope you will join me in voting for them.
