Amanda Fox was a dual threat for Pontiac as she got the win on the bump and helped her cause at the plate as Pontiac shut out Metamora 7-0 in the season-opener for the softball Indians.
Fox chalked up 50 strikes on 79 pitches in five innings. She struck out 10, walked three and allowed three hits before giving way to Regan Krause. Krause was just as dominant with four Ks and allowing two hits in two innings.
Pontiac got on the board in the second inning, which was enough for Fox and Krause on this day. It was Krause who scored the run. She had tripled with one out and scored on Maddi Stark’s base hit.
Addison Masching walked to lead off the third and Madi Webster singled to begin a five-run outburst for the Indians. Emma Jacobs reached on a fielder’s choice to third and Fox singled home Webster to make it 2-0.
Sydney Barnett drew a walk to load the bases and Krause kept the bases loaded after reaching on a fielder’s choice, where Jacobs was out at the plate. Stark singled home Fox in keeping the bases loaded. Madison Weber drove in Barnett with a base hit.
A passed ball with Rebecca Rich at the plate allowed Krause and Stark to score to make it 6-0.
Weber walked to lead off the sixth and scored when Peyton Trost doubled to center.
Stark had two hits and drove in two runs for Pontiac (1-0). Fox also had two hits and had a run batted in. Krause tripled and scored twice and Trost had a double and RBI. Weber singled and drove in a run and Webster and Jacobs each had one hit.
