Pontiac-Streator baseball, with PTHS frosh-sophs and JV contests

    Pontiac scored seven runs over the final two innings to edge past Streator 14-12 in a nonconference baseball game Monday.
    The Indians actually scored eight runs over th last three innings in overcoming an 11-6 deficit.
    The five-run sixth inning gave Pontiac a 12-11 lead. It started with Eric Watson reaching on a dropped third strike. Jakob Grieff followed with a walk and Garrett Gould singled with one out to drive in Watson and get things rolling.
    Jacob Duffy walked and Grieff scored on a passed ball before Ben Schuler doubled to center the chase Gould and Duffy home with the tying runs. Logan Verdun then singled.
    Schuler was thrown out at the plate after an errant pitch, but Verdun advanced to second on the play. Andrew Lee then singled to drive in Verdun and give the Tribe the lead.
    Pontiac added two key insurance runs in the seventh inning. Watson began the inning by reaching first again, this time by a walk. Grieff was hit by a pitch but was wiped out when Carter Dawson reached on a fielder’s choice, putting runners on the corners.
    Gould hit a sacrifice fly to score Watson and Dawson took second. Duffy singled on the first pitch he saw in his at bat and Dawson scored to make it 14-11.
     The Indians scored twice in the first inning but the Bulldogs tied it in the home half of the frame. PTHS scored two more runs in the second but Streator put up six for an 8-4 lead.
    Pontiac scored twice again in the third only to give up three to Streator in the bottom of the inning that gave the Bulldogs an 11-6 edge.
    Lee got the win after three innings of relief. He gave up a run on one hit and three walks while striking out two. Luke Fox started, giving up seven runs on three hits and four walks in 1 1-3 innings. He fanned one. Tanner Walls then yielded four unearned runs on six hits and a walk in 2 2-3 innings of relief. He fanned two.
    Gould had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Indians. Watson had a home run, double, drove in three runs and scored three times. Schuler collected a double, single and three RBIs and Duffy, Walls and Lee each had a hit and RBI. Verdun and Dawson each singled.
    IN JUNIOR VARSITY play, Pontiac won the JV game at The Ballpark at Williamson Field as Isaac Nollen tossed a three-hitter. Nollen struck out nine and walked one.
    He received offensive support when the Indians (9-7) scored two runs in the second inning and one in the fourth. A pair of three-run frames polished off Streator.
    Nollen helped his cause with a hit and run batted in. Nic Hendren had two hits and drove in a run while Payton Amm singled while reaching base four times. Ryan Weir, Clay Pfeifer and Tre Edinger each singled. Edinger also had an RBI while Kobe Fox drove in two runs.
Pontiac 19, Schlarman 0
    DANVILLE — Pontiac’s frosh-sophs overwhelmed Schlarman 19-0 by scoring in each of the five innings played on Saturday.
    The Indians scored three runs in the first inning and added a run in the second. A three-run third was followed by a five-run fourth. Seven runs in the fifth made sure the game ended after the frame concluded.
    Trevor Sexton had three hits and five runs batted in for the Indians. Aaron Adcock contributed two hits and three RBIs. Clayton Haase had two hits and two runs batted in and Kaden Thomas had a double, single and RBI. Skyler Gibson also had two hits. Brendan Bohm had a hit and RBI and Tyler Pulliam, Patrick Sancken, Andy Potts and Jacob Bressner each singled.
