ORION—A Peoria company, Guardian Fitness, has had a Mobile Training Team working out with Orion school district personnel this summer.

ANNAWAN—Princeville downed Orion 4-0 in baseball regional semifinals on Wednesday, May 19, in Annawan. The Chargers twice had Travis Anderson on third base but could not
GALESBURG—Dunlap defeated Orion-Sherrard 3-0 in Class 2A soccer regional semifinals on Tuesday, May 18, in Galesburg. The Eagles went on to win the regional title, while the Chargers finished the season at 8-9-3. “We drew a very tough team to open regionals against,” Orion-Sherrard coach Rick Cline said. “Dunlap has a great soccer tradition, and they are a talented bunch of soccer players.”
KNOXVILLE—“Beware of Spring Storm” read the Alexis United fan’s shirt. A spring storm hovering over Knoxville on Wednesday, May 26, forced the Orion Chargers and the United Red Storm to postpone their sectional semifinal game a day. When the game was finally played, a spring storm of strikes from Katie Bertelsen shut down the Chargers, who suffered a 3-0 loss to end their season.
ORION—Believin’ may be the word that best sums up Orion High School’s Class of 2010. During graduation on Sunday, May 23, senior vocalists sang “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which ends with the words “Don’t stop.” As the choir voices ceased, the audience heard a single voice on the stage add the word “believin’” from a senior who had been singing along with the choir. Graduation was an emotional ceremony for the seniors, who paused several to remember classmate Greg Nightingale. He died during their junior year. The class also celebrated Derrick Andrae, who underwent brain surgery to remove a tumor last fall.
FARMINGTON—Kennen Hutchison of Orion qualified for the Class 1A state track meet by winning the 400-meter dash in 52.0 seconds at the sectional meet on Friday night, May 21, in Farmington.
FARMINGTON—Orion crowned two Olympic champions at the conference’s final boys track meet on Thursday, May 13, in Farmington. Nathan Walter won the 200-meter dash in 23.50 seconds, and Kennen Hutchison won the triple jump with a distance of 40 feet, 8 1/2 inches, or more than two feet farther than the runner-up. The meet ended with no one breaking former Charger Logan Hohl’s hurdle records. Since it was the last Olympic Conference meet, they will stand forever.
CHARLESTON—Orion’s Ashley Anderson, Cara Christal, Sophie Maciolek and Megan Miller competed on a cool, rainy day in the IHSA state track meet on Thursday, May 20.
ONEIDA—Down 1-0 midway through the first inning of the regional championship game, the Orion Chargers took advantage of five hits, two errors and a sacrifice bunt to jump ahead 4-1 by the end of the second frame. They went on to defeat the host ROWVA Tigers 5-1 on Saturday, May 22, in Oneida.
ONEIDA—Everyone hits, everyone runs and everyone scores applied to Orion’s 12-1 win over Galva in semifinals of the regional softball tournament on Tuesday, May 18, in Oneida.
BUSHNELL—Orion scored in six events at the Spartan Invitational for boys track teams on Monday, May 17. Charger Nathan Walter ran to fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.12 seconds.
EDGINGTON—Ashley Anderson and the 3200-meter relay team represented Orion at the IHSA state track meet last week in Charleston.
Anderson was to run in the 800 and Cara Christal, Sophie Maciolek, Megan Miller and Anderson in the 3200.
ORION—The Orion-Sherrard varsity soccer team finished the regular season 8-8-3, reaching the .500 mark with three wins in the last three games.
ORION—The Orion-Sherrard girls' soccer team will hold its postseason awards banquet at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 27, in the commons at Orion High School. Also, the OHS boys' and girls' track teams will hold their banquet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, in Central Park, Orion. If the weather is bad, the banquet will be in the commons at OHS.
ORION—The Chargers split home-and-away games with the Sherrard Tigers and the Rockridge Rockets in varsity softball.
ONEIDA—The Orion Chargers defeated the host ROWVA Tigers 5-1 for the regional championship in softball on Saturday morning, May 22.
