Kennen Hutchison of Orion qualified for the Class 1A state track meet by winning the 400-meter dash in 52.0 seconds at the sectional meet on Friday night, May 21, in Farmington.
O’Brien Stadium, Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, hosted the 1A meet on Thursday, May 27, and Saturday, May 29.
At the sectional meet, Hutchison placed third in the 200 dash at 23.30 seconds.
He was fifth with a distance of 39 feet, 3 1/4 inches, in the triple jump.
Nathan Walter came in sixth in the 200 dash. He clocked 23.70 seconds.
Running in sprints for Orion were Walter, 11.70, and Taylor Peterson, 12.80, in the 100 preliminaries, and Austin Anderson, 56.30 in the 400.
Over longer distances, Luke Owens clocked 2:28.90 and Ben VanDuyne, 2:44.80, in the 800; Matt McVietty, 5:24.10, and VanDuyne, 6:26.80, in the 1600; and Greg Hartsfield, 12:33.50, in the 3200.
In the 110 hurdle prelims, Alex Fleming was timed at 19.20 and Dylan Bridgewater at 20.90. During the 300 hurdles, Fleming finished at 48.70 and Bridgewater at 53.20.
The 400 relay finished at 46.70. Names of relay runners were not included with the results.
In the 800 relay, the Chargers completed the two laps in 1:46.60.
Over the four laps of the 1600 relay, Orion’s time was 4:01.10.
The 3200 relay clocked 9:41.40.
Walter reached 17-10 3/4 in the long jump, while Cory Stiles landed at 16-1 1/2.
Stiles thumped down at 33-5 3/4 in the triple jump.
Shot putters were Evan Viager, whose best effort was 32-1, and Owens, who heaved the iron 27-6 1/2.
Schultz spun the discus 101-7, and Jon Nicholson threw it 79-10.
Alleman won the sectional championship with 100 points. Farmington was second at 84; followed by Elmwood, 64; Sherrard, 57; Knoxville, 45 1/2; Biggsville West Central, 42; Aledo, 38.5; ROWVA, 36; Riverdale, 31; and Orion, 17.
Cambridge was 11th with 12 points, followed by Monmouth-Roseville, 10; Alexis United, 10; Galva, 7; and Rockridge, 4.
