Orion crowned two Olympic champions at the conference’s final boys track meet on Thursday, May 13, in Farmington.
Nathan Walter won the 200-meter dash in 23.50 seconds, and Kennen Hutchison won the triple jump with a distance of 40 feet, 8 1/2 inches, or more than two feet farther than the runner-up.
The meet ended with no one breaking former Charger Logan Hohl’s hurdle records. Since it was the last Olympic Conference meet, they will stand forever.
In the conference meet in 2007, Hohl ran the 110 hurdles in 14.13 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 38.20.
During Thursday’s meet, the 2010 Charger sprinters shone.
Hutchison was second in the 400 at 52.10 ticks. In the 200, he was right on Walter’s heels with a time of 23.70 for second place.
Walter was third in the 100 at 11.50.
In the long jump, Walter was second with a distance of 19-9 1/2.
Three Charger relays scored. In the 3200, Chargers Austin Anderson, Alex Fleming, Matt McVietty and Luke Owens clocked 9:21.00 for third place.
The 800 relay of Evan Viager, Cory Stiles, Dylan Schultz and Brian Doxstader came in fourth at 1:43.20.
Anderson, Schultz, Kyle Conway and Doxstader teamed up to run the 1600 relay in 3:54.10 for sixth place.
In the high jump, Anderson tied for sixth with a vault of 5-2.
Orion sprinters included Taylor Peterson, 12.60 in the 100 preliminaries, and Kyle Conway, 1:02.60 in the 400.
In the 800 run, Luke Owens was timed at 2:38.10 and Ben VanDuyne at 2:51.90.
Over 1600 meters, McVietty recorded a time of 5:15.30 and Owens a clocking of 5:41.40.
Greg Hartsfield ran the 3200 in 12:31.60 and VanDuyne in 13:38.60.
Charger hurdlers included Fleming, 19.00 in the 110; Dylan
Bridgewater, 19.90 in the 110 and 52.40 in the 300; and Peterson, 53.48 in the 300.
In field events, Fleming cleared 5-0 in the high jump. Stiles reached 15-9 1/4 in the long jump and 34-0 in the triple jump.
Weight men were Evan Viager, 33-3, shot put; Jon Nicholson, 29-11, shot put; Schultz, 95-10, discus; and Doxstader, 63-6.
Sherrard ran off with the final Olympic championship. The Tigers racked up 159 points.
Macomb was second with 130; Farmington, third, 111; Orion, fourth, 61.5; Monmouth-Roseville, fifth, 51; and Rockridge, sixth, 43.5.
