The Chargers cruised to a 58-43 victory over the Rockridge Rockets to clinch a share of the last Olympic Conference championship in boys basketball. The victory came on senior night, Friday, Feb. 19.
Orion also won the first Olympic title back in 1976-77.
Friday night's game opened with the Chargers surging to a 15-9 lead in the first quarter. Orion outscored Rockridge 13-5 in the second quarter for a 28-14 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter, the Rockets scored more points, 17, than they had in the entire first half. But they still couldn't catch the Chargers, who put 16 points on the board.
Orion posted 14 points in the fourth quarter to 12 for the visitors.
Tanner Williams paced the Chargers with 25 points. Jared Simmer added seven; Danny DeBacker and Tyler DeDecker, six; James Matson and Trent DeDecker, five; Matt Thor, two; and Kennen Hutchison and Zach Kahley, one.
Matson arched in Orion's only trey.
At the free-throw line, the Chargers made 13 of 21 attempts. Williams shot 7-for-8; Trent DeDecker, 3-for-4; and Kahley and Hutchison, 1-for-2.
The Rockets connected on three treys, but they were 0-for-4 at the charity stripe.
