Orion’s Ashley Anderson received honorable mention on the Dispatch-Rock Island Argus’ All-Area girls track team.
The freshman won a sectional championship in the 800-meter run, clocking 2 minutes, 26.65 seconds, on Saturday, May 16, at the Sunnylane Field track in Monmouth.
The win qualified her for the Class 1A state track meet on Thursday, May 21, in O’Brien Stadium at Eastern Illinois University, Charleston.
In her preliminary heat, Anderson completed the two laps in 2:25.85, her best time of the year, and finished fourth.
She needed to beat 2:25.10 to advance to the finals on Saturday, May 23.
