MACOMB — City police arrested a man Saturday night after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman known to him.
Macomb Police Deputy Chief Chief Eric Lenardt said officers were dispatched just after 9 p.m. on Saturday to a residence on North Campbell Street after the dispatch center received a call from a woman saying she “needed help.”
On arrival, officers met with a woman who said Randall Craig Pittman, 48, of Macomb had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. Officers learned the woman had been drinking alcohol earlier in the day with Pittman present. Lenardt said that at some point the victim had passed out. She told officers that upon waking up she discovered Pittman was putting clothing back onto her body. She also said she had the feeling that intercourse had occurred. Based on the interviews with both the victim and Pittman and evidence, Pittman was arrested on suspicion of criminal sexual assault.
Further details regarding Pittman’s statement were not released to media because of the ongoing investigation. Identities of victims are not published as a matter of newspaper policy. Pittman was issued $5,000 cash bond.
