Dorothy E. Thomson, 88, of Nekoma-Woodhull, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2019, at Seminary Manor, in Galesburg. A visitation was from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Altona. A funeral service directly followed the visitation at 11 a.m. Interment was at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, in Altona. The Rev. Tim Anderson officiated. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Altona. The Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, in Oneida, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dorothy was born on July 15, 1930, in Nekoma, the daughter of Linus Sebastian and Selma (Bloomquist) Sebastian. She attended Nekoma Grade School, and graduated from Altona High School in 1948. She worked at John H. Best in Galva until her marriage to Donald E. Thomson on Dec. 23, 1950 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona. Dorothy lived in Bartonville for a few years, then Galesburg for five years, before moving “back” home to Nekoma in 1956. After the children were in school, she worked at the Galva Super Value for 10 years, she then worked 14 years in the Child Support Division at the Henry County Courthouse, and lastly 10 years as secretary at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her four children: Linda Torbert, of Galva; Sheri Wood, of Galva; Virginia Verscheure, of Kewanee; and Randy (Pam) Thomson, of Nekoma; son-in-law Gene Stone; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Thomson; parents, Linus and Selma Sebastian; daughter, Diane Stone; daughter-in-law, Sherry Thomson; and two grandchildren, Shanna Thomson and Zachery Wood.
