Pontiac baseball

Despite trailing by four runs going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Pontiac was not of the belief that the game was over, at least not until the Indians batted.
When the game did end, it was on a two-run triple from Logan Verdun that gave the Tribe a 14-13 Illini Prairie Conference victory over Central Catholic at The Ballpark at Williamson Field.
The Saints had combined to score 13 runs in the fifth and sixth inning to take the lead. Pontiac trailed 13-9 when it came to bat in the seventh.
Austin Einhaus led off with a walk with Eric Watson and Garrett Gould each getting a single. Gould’s hit drove in Einhaus and the electricity was becoming to flow in the PTHS dugout.
Carter Dawson doubled in Watson and Gould to make it at 13-12. Schuler singled to put runners on the corners and Verdun drilled his game-winning three-base hit to right off a 1-2 offering, driving in Dawson and Schuler for the win.
BCC scored single runs in each of the first three innings, but Pontiac led 8-3 entering the fifth. Dawson had a run-scoring double and later scored on a wild pitch in the third inning.
Watson had a run-scoring triple and Jakob Grieff blasted a three-run homer in a five-run fourth for the five-run lead.
The Saints scored seven runs in the fifth off Tanner Walls and Isaac Nollen, and three more runs in the sixth off Nollen for a 13-8 lead. Pontiac got one run back in the sixth on a Schuler base hit.
Dawson had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs for the Indians. Grieff homered, singled and drove in three runs while Schuler had two hits and two RBIs. Watson tripled, singled and had an RBI and Gould had two hits and a run batted in. Verdun tripled in two runs.
Schuler got the win in relief, going 1 1-3 innings with two strikeouts. Walls started, fanning seven in 4-plus innings and Nollen had one strikeout in his 1 2-3 innings of relief.
